RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Dr. Beverly Sparks; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dr. Beverly Sparks has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for
her leadership in the field of agriculture and her deep concern for the
well-being of others; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Sparks has diligently and conscientiously devoted her time, talents, and
energy to the agricultural community of this state for over 30 years;
and
WHEREAS,
her impressive academic record is exemplified by undergraduate and graduate work
at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, the University of Georgia, and
Louisiana State University; and
WHEREAS,
she served with distinction as a Professor of Entomology at the University of
Georgia from 1989 to 1995 and her research on landscape pest control and
management of the Red Imported Fire Ant is recognized nationally;
and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Sparks provided educational support to faculty and their clientele in all
159 counties of Georgia as Extension Program Coordinator from 1996 to 2002;
and
WHEREAS,
the North and Northeast Extension Districts are poised to move forward in the
21st century largely because of her ability to attract, hire, train, and
evaluate high quality county-based extension faculty; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Sparks has been recognized with numerous honors and accolades, including the
D.W. Brooks Faculty Award for Extension and the Walter B. Hill Award for Public
Service and Outreach, the highest faculty awards of the University of Georgia
College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; and
WHEREAS,
this distinguished professional was the first woman to serve as Associate Dean
for Extension and was recognized by
Georgia Trend
Magazine as one of Georgia's 40 Power
Women in 2010; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of
this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the amazing career of Dr. Beverly Sparks and recognize the efficient, effective,
dedicated, and selfless service she has provided for the State of
Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Beverly Sparks.
