A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Staff Sergeant Marty Brownlee; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
our nation's security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put their
personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm's way to protect the
freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and
WHEREAS,
Staff Sergeant Marty Brownlee has earned a well-deserved reputation as a strong
leader and a man with an unwavering commitment to protecting the people and
ideals of the United States of America; and
WHEREAS,
he began his military career in 1996, and was stationed as a guardian of this
nation's freedom and liberty in Iraq and Bosnia; and
WHEREAS,
Staff Sergeant Brownlee left the military in 2000 and continued to protect the
people of Georgia as a police officer with the Monticello Police Department and
later with the McDonough Police Department, where he was promoted to detective
and served as a member of the Henry County Gang Task Force; and
WHEREAS,
in 2006, Staff Sergeant Brownlee joined the Georgia National Guard, earning the
rank of staff sergeant and then platoon sergeant and serving in Germany and
Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS,
during his time in Afghanistan, Staff Sergeant Brownlee trained three districts
of Afghan National Police, provided security during the country's 2009 national
elections, and was assigned to train and live with Afghan Border Police in the
Dand Patan District; and
WHEREAS,
on February 11, 2010, a civilian dressed as an Afghan Border Police Officer
wearing suicide bombs entered the barracks where Staff Sergeant Brownlee was
living and detonated, injuring five personnel, including Staff Sergeant
Brownlee; and
WHEREAS, since the bombing, Staff Sergeant Brownlee has undergone numerous surgeries at Army facilities throughout the country and he is currently recovering at the Martin Army Medical Center in Ft. Benning, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, since the bombing, Staff Sergeant Brownlee has undergone numerous surgeries at Army facilities throughout the country and he is currently recovering at the Martin Army Medical Center in Ft. Benning, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
in honor of his courage and bravery, Staff Sergeant Brownlee received a Purple
Heart for his extraordinary service in Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS,
Staff Sergeant Brownlee embodies the spirit of service, willing to find meaning
in something greater than himself, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that
the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished American be
recognized appropriately.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Staff Sergeant Marty Brownlee on his efficient, effective, unselfish, and
dedicated public service to the citizens of his country and extend to him best
wishes for a speedy and healthy recovery.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Staff Sergeant Marty
Brownlee.
