A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Belva Allen Davis on the occasion of her 100th birthday; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, a true steel magnolia, Belva Allen Davis was born on March 13, 1912, in Tallapoosa, Georgia, a beloved daughter of Marshall Champion Allen and Frances Jane Robertson Allen; and

WHEREAS, alongside her parents, sisters, and other relatives, she had to work the land from sunup to sunset to survive, living with no electricity or running water; and

WHEREAS, from a young age she realized her total commitment was to serving God, and as a woman of deep and abiding faith, Ms. Davis is the most dedicated Christian a person could possibly be; and

WHEREAS, she was united in love and marriage for almost 60 years to her late husband, Horace Davis, and has been blessed with the love and devotion of three remarkable children, five adored grandchildren, and seven wonderful great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her own children, she and her husband provided clothing, shelter, and the means and money for education for countless other people; and

WHEREAS, although Ms. Davis has lived through two world wars, the Great Depression, world changes, family tragedies, and much more, she has never once wavered from her unshakable faith in and commitment to God; and

WHEREAS, a high believer in education, she was the only member of her family to graduate high school, then went on to work for 35 years, most of which was at Fort McPherson Hospital, working her way up from a clerk typist to a medical librarian; and
WHEREAS, she is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, devotion, kindness, and unconditional love, and by the example she has made of her life, she makes this world a better place in which to live, thus it is only fitting and proper that she be appropriately recognized during this very special and memorable time of her life.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in commending Belva Allen Davis on the occasion of her 100th birthday and wishing her many more years of happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Belva Allen Davis.
