A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Ms. Bobbi Lyn Moreno; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Bobbi Lyn Moreno, Spanish teacher at Southeast Bulloch High School, is widely recognized throughout her community and this state as the personification of excellence in education; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her outstanding dedication to academic achievement, Ms. Moreno has been named the Georgia Teacher of the Year by the Foreign Language Association of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Moreno was selected from among the 900 kindergarten through grade 12 and postsecondary teachers of foreign languages in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, this dedicated educator was chosen based upon her teaching philosophy, her approach to language learning, her strengths of using technology and collaboration, and how she incorporates culture into lessons; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Moreno is praised for her ability to promote foreign language learning outside the classroom to the community, parents, and administrators; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Moreno earned a bachelor's degree in English and Spanish education, a master's degree in Spanish education, and a specialist's degree in teaching and learning from Georgia Southern University; and

WHEREAS, an avid grant writer, Ms. Moreno incorporates technology in her teaching and actively seeks ways to partner with fellow teachers at both Southeast Bulloch High School and a high school in Oaxaca, Mexico; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Moreno's students have completed such innovative projects as creating bi-lingual pamphlets for doctors in Bulloch County, researching Spanish equivalents to popular English idioms, pairing American poetry with Spanish works of art that convey the same theme, creating their own avatars who speak Spanish, and translating their personal Facebook profiles and comments into Spanish; and

WHEREAS, nothing is more vital to the future of our state than the education of our young people, and, during her teaching career, Ms. Moreno has exemplified the selfless dedication and professionalism which are characteristic of our finest educators; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate that this body join in expressing appreciation to Ms. Moreno for her outstanding efforts and accomplishments in education.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate Ms. Bobbi Lyn Moreno upon her selection as Georgia Teacher of the Year by the Foreign Language Association of Georgia and express gratitude for the great credit this fine educator reflects upon the Bulloch County School System and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Bobbi Lyn Moreno.
