RESOLUTION
Recognizing
Sekondi Landry for his efforts to save the Scott Candler Library in DeKalb
County and inviting him to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Sekondi Landry is a sixth grader who is home schooled in DeKalb County, Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
when Sekondi found out that the library he uses every day was being considered
for closure on April 1, 2011, he took to the streets with a Save Our Library
sign and a petition, urging neighbors to unite to keep the Scott Candler Library
open; and
WHEREAS,
Sekondi was featured by the
Atlanta
Journal-Constitution for his efforts to
bring awareness of the potential closure of the Scott Candler Library to his
friends and neighbors; and
WHEREAS,
because of his efforts, the DeKalb County Commissioners have agreed to extend
the life of the Scott Candler Library at least through June 30, 2011;
and
WHEREAS,
Sekondi and other members of the community have been invited to work with DeKalb
County and the DeKalb County Public Library system to create a plan to extend
the life of the current location of Scott Candler Library until the new Scott
Candler Library is opened in January, 2012; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary devotion and activism
of this promising and passionate young Georgian be appropriately
recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Sekondi Landry on his efforts to save the Scott Candler
Library and invite him to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a
date and time to be determined by the Speaker of the House of
Representatives.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Sekondi
Landry.
