A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Arthur Joseph McClung, Jr.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Arthur Joseph McClung, Jr., on February 6, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McClung was born in Tuskegee Institute, Alabama; and

WHEREAS, before his retirement in 2008, Mr. McClung was the director of Atlanta operations for Georgia Power Company; and

WHEREAS, he was a member of nearly a dozen civic and community boards, including Habitat for Humanity, Boy Scouts of America, and Georgia Perimeter College's foundation; and

WHEREAS, he was a corporate member, friend, and supporter of the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials and served on its corporate roundtable as well as having served in leadership positions on Atlanta West End Rotary Club, the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, Emory University Board of Visitors, and MARTA; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McClung was united in love and marriage to Angela R. McClung, and was blessed with one remarkable son, Arthur "Trey" Joseph McClung III; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Mr. McClung will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Arthur Joseph McClung, Jr., and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Arthur Joseph McClung, Jr.
