RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Matthew Charles Cardinale; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Matthew Charles Cardinale is the news editor and founder of Atlanta
Progressive News, an online independent news service that provides news and
information to Georgians; and
WHEREAS,
since moving to Atlanta in 2005, he has written or edited nearly 1,000 original
news articles; and
WHEREAS,
in 2010, Mr. Cardinale was concerned about a secret vote taken by the Atlanta
City Council and filed a pro se lawsuit challenging the vote; and
WHEREAS,
his lawsuit was appealed all the way up to the Supreme Court and won the ruling
which bans secret votes across the entire State of Georgia, one of the most
significant rulings in favor of Georgia's Sunshine Laws since their enactment in
1988; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Cardinale holds a bachelor's degree in sociology and political science from
Tulane University, a master's degree in sociology from the University of
California-Irvine, and a master's degree in public administration from the
University of New Orleans; and
WHEREAS,
an active member in his community, Mr. Cardinale serves as the North American
Correspondent for the Inter-Press Service and board member of the Fulton Atlanta
Community Action Authority; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Cardinale has dedicated his career to making a difference in his community
and the lives of others and his many achievements are worthy of
recognition.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Mr. Matthew Charles Cardinale for his selfless, innovative,
and talented career as founder and news editor of Atlanta Progressive News and
extend heartfelt appreciation for his contributions to his community and the
State of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Matthew
Charles Cardinale.
