A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Richard A. Anderson; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Richard A. Anderson has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy to the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) as executive director since March, 2008; and

WHEREAS, under Mr. Anderson's leadership GRTA's Express service has seen a 50 percent increase in ridership, and he has been asked by Governor Sonny Perdue to lead an effort to create a strategic transportation plan for the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Anderson earned a magna cum laude bachelor's degree in marketing and a master's degree in business administration from Murray State University; and

WHEREAS, he had a long and distinguished career in the telecommunications industry before joining the GRTA team, starting a career with BellSouth in 1981 as an account executive and rising through the ranks to become vice chairman of planning and administration and president of global business services after the company merged with AT&T; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Anderson began his career as a public servant in 2007 as chairman of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and led the organization in representing over 4,000 companies with more than 700,000 employees; and

WHEREAS, as chamber chairman, Mr. Anderson was responsible for helping the chamber make incredible policy decisions which shaped the entire state and he proposed action on crises ranging from transportation funding to water issues; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Anderson has been recognized with numerous honors and accolades during his prestigious career, including being named one of the 100 most influential Atlantans by the Business Chronicle; and

WHEREAS, an active community leader, Mr. Anderson serves on several boards including the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Clark Atlanta University, Camp Twin Lakes, Kennesaw State University, Murray State University, and MARTA; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Anderson, his wife Maureen, and their three children, David, Lucy, and Mac, live in Roswell, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body that the members of this body commend Mr. Richard A. Anderson on his incredible career and thank him for the selfless service he provides the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority as executive director.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Richard A. Anderson.
