RESOLUTION
Commending
Ashley Houts and inviting her to be recognized by the House of Representatives;
and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ashley Houts has proven herself to be an outstanding basketball player with
dedication, determination, and drive; and
WHEREAS,
the beloved daughter of Greg and Joni Houts, Ashley graduated from Dade County
High School, where she was a stellar athlete and named Homecoming Queen and Miss
Dade County High as a senior; and
WHEREAS,
upon Ashley's graduation from Dade County High School her jersey, #23, was
retired by the school's basketball program in honor and recognition of her
success on the court; and
WHEREAS,
her athletic abilities have been recognized with her award of the Val Porter
Family Women's Basketball Scholarship Endowment for 2006-2007, the Tom and
Jeanette Greeson Women's Basketball Scholarship Endowment for 2007-2008, and the
Leon, Jr. and Vickie Farmer Scholarship for 2008-2009 and 2009-2010;
and
WHEREAS,
a student at the University of Georgia, Ashley was chosen as the 2006-2007 SEC
Freshman of the Year, the sixth Lady Bulldog to receive this prestigious honor;
and
WHEREAS,
she broke the Lady Bulldog record for steals with 93 and became the school's
30th 1,000-point career scorer in 2009; and
WHEREAS,
Ashley was the only rising sophomore on the United States National Team which
captured the Gold medal at the 2007 U21 World Championships in Moscow;
and
WHEREAS,
she won a second Gold medal as a member of the United States National Team at
the 2009 World University Games; and
WHEREAS,
this stellar athlete has earned her reputation as a force to be reckoned with,
and this body looks with great anticipation to her many future accomplishments
both on and off the court.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Ashley Houts for her outstanding athletic abilities,
congratulate her on her impressive record-breaking performances, and invite her
to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be
determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ashley Houts.
