A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT

To amend Article 7 of Chapter 17 of Title 47 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to miscellaneous provisions relative to the Peace Officers' Annuity and Benefit Fund, so as to provide that a member of the fund who ceases to be employed as a peace officer shall have a duty to so notify the retirement fund immediately; to provide for a cessation of membership; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Article 7 of Chapter 17 of Title 47 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to miscellaneous provisions relative to the Peace Officers' Annuity and Benefit Fund, is amended by adding a new Code section to read as follows:
"47-17-105.
If at any time a member of the fund undergoes a change of employment to a position that does not qualify the member as a 'peace officer' as such term is defined in this chapter, or if his or her job description changes in a manner that is inconsistent with such definition, such member shall have an affirmative duty to notify the board of such change immediately. The board is not authorized to accept membership dues from any such member or to pay benefits calculated on service after such a change of employment or job description."
