2A resolution recognizing April 16, 2011, as "Jimmy Buffett
3Day" in Florida.

5     WHEREAS, Jimmy Buffett is a world-class entertainer known
6for his support of charitable and environmental causes
7throughout the world, and
8     WHEREAS, following his graduation from the University of
9Southern Mississippi in 1969, Jimmy Buffett attempted to make
10his mark on the Nashville music scene before moving to Key West,
11where he gradually evolved into the easy-going inhabitant and
12troubadour of the islands revered by millions of adoring fans,
13whose music mixes country, folk, and coastal themes, and
14     WHEREAS, opening in 1985, Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville
15Store in Key West was the first of its kind, and since that
16time, Margaritaville Cafés and Stores have expanded to more than
17a dozen locations worldwide, with the Orlando Margaritaville
18Café being one of the franchise's highest-grossing locations,
19and
20     WHEREAS, in 1981, Jimmy Buffett and Governor Bob Graham
21founded the Save the Manatee Club, one of the world's leading
22manatee preservation organizations, and
23     WHEREAS, in 1995, Jimmy Buffett used the proceeds from that
24year's concert tour to fund the Singing for Change Charitable
25Foundation, which provides grants to local charities that
26support children and families, the environment, and
27disenfranchised groups, and
28     WHEREAS, on November 23, 2004, Jimmy Buffett raised $3.4
29million at his "Surviving the Storm" Hurricane Relief Concert in
30Orlando to provide relief for hurricane victims in Florida,
31Alabama, and the Caribbean, and
32     WHEREAS, on January 18, 2008, Jimmy Buffett performed a
33concert in Hong Kong that raised $63,000 for the Foreign
34Correspondents' Club Charity Fund, and
35     WHEREAS, on July 11, 2010, Jimmy Buffett organized and
36performed a concert for Gulf Coast residents to raise awareness
37of the effects of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and to support
38the livelihood of the area, and
39     WHEREAS, Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Beach Hotel,
40located in Pensacola, opened in the summer of 2010 and employs
41approximately 200 Floridians, and
42     WHEREAS, Jimmy Buffett is also an author and one of only
43seven writers to have a number-one book on both the New York
44Times Fiction and Non-Fiction Best Sellers lists, NOW,
45THEREFORE,

47Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
48Florida:

50     That April 16, 2011, is recognized as "Jimmy Buffett Day"
51in Florida in appreciation of his charitable efforts, support of
52the environment, and positive economic impact in the state.
53     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
54presented to Jimmy Buffett as a tangible token of the sentiments
55expressed herein.
