DELAWARE STATE SENATE

150th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 23

HONORING THE VICTIMS OF THE CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND TERROR ATTACK.

WHEREAS, on March 15, 2019, at least fifty people were killed, and fifty people were wounded in a terror attack targeting two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand; and

WHEREAS, the attack occurred during Friday prayer at Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Mosque; and

WHEREAS, the alleged perpetrator of the crimes cited white supremacist and anti-Muslim views as the motivation for the terror attack; and

WHEREAS, white nationalist terrorism has been steadily rising and has become an increasing threat globally; and

WHEREAS, the country of New Zealand has shown incredible strength and resolve in both recognizing the cause of the tragedy and supporting its victims; and

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 150th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the State of Delaware honors, and stands in solidarity with, the victims of the terror attack in Christchurch, New Zealand that occurred on March 15, 2019;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the 150th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, condemns and recognizes the threat that white nationalism and Islamophobia presents to the safety and security of all Delawareans.

SYNOPSIS

This resolution honors the victims of the Christchurch, New Zealand terror attack.
