URGING CONGRESS TO REQUIRE THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE TO DESIGNATE "PRISONER OF WAR" AND "MISSING IN ACTION" INTO THE CASUALTY STATUS AND CATEGORY CLASSIFICATION FOR MILITARY PERSONNEL. |
WHEREAS, there is concern that the Department of Defense no longer lists "Prisoner of War" as a designation for soldiers presumed captured by the enemy; and
WHEREAS, there is a concern that the Department of Defense no longer lists "Missing in Action" as a designation for soldiers missing in action; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Defense currently uses the status "Missing/ Captured" for those soldiers presumed captured by the enemy; and
WHEREAS, the use of the terminology "Missing/Captured" does not provide proper respect for those members of the armed services who put their lives in harm's way for our nation; and
WHEREAS, the terms "Prisoner of War" and "Missing in Action" have special meaning to those who have served in our armed forces.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 145th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that the members hereby urge Congress to require the United States Department of Defense to designate "Prisoner of War" and "Missing in Action" into the casualty status and category classification of military personnel.
