Summary
As introduced Bill 23-697 prevents abusive practices by student loan servicers; it also clarifies what criteria must be met by student loan servicers with the US Department of Education to obtain a limited student loan servicing license. It also assigns the Attorney General of the District of Columbia with enforcement powers. It also, among other things, transfers the Student Loan Ombudsperson from the Department of Insurance Securities and Banking to the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia.
