AN ACT CONCERNING CORRECTIONAL ADMINISTRATORS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. Section 18-82 of the general statutes is repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective October 1, 2014):

The Commissioner of Correction shall appoint and may remove the following administrators, all of whom shall serve at the pleasure of the commissioner and shall be exempt from the classified service: (1) All correctional wardens, including any warden with oversight of a district, a correctional institution, parole and community services, population management, programs and treatment, security and academy training or staff development, [. Such] and (2) all executive assistants described in subdivision (10) of section 5-198 who are not in the custodial chain of command. All wardens shall possess skill and experience in correctional or law enforcement administration.

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:

Statement of Purpose:

To add the unclassified position of executive assistant to those positions the Commissioner of Correction may appoint, and expand the skill requirement for wardens to include law enforcement administration.
