AN ACT ESTABLISHING AN INSURANCE FRAUD DIVISION IN THE INSURANCE DEPARTMENT.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That title 38a of the general statutes be amended to establish an Insurance Fraud Division in the Insurance Department to enforce the state's insurance laws and increase detection and investigation of insurance fraud. The start-up operations of said division shall be funded by the proceeds of the settlement reached by the state and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in December, 2010, and a portion of fines, fees or settlements received by the state or the Insurance Department as a result of any investigations or enforcement actions initiated by said division shall be used to fund said division's continuing operations.

Statement of Purpose:

To establish an Insurance Fraud Division in the Insurance Department to enforce the state's insurance laws and increase detection and investigations of insurance fraud.
