AN ACT CONCERNING THE TIME FOR PARENTAL NOTIFICATION WHEN A CHILD IS ADMITTED TO A HOSPITAL FOR DIAGNOSIS OR TREATMENT OF A MENTAL DISORDER.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 17a-79 of the general statutes be amended to require a hospital to notify a parent or guardian of a child's admission to the hospital without the parent's consent for diagnosis or treatment of a mental disorder not later than twenty-four hours after the child's admission.

Statement of Purpose:

To change the time for a hospital to notify a parent when a child is admitted to the hospital for diagnosis or treatment of a mental disorder from not later than five days after the child's admission to not later than one day after the child's admission.
