AN ACT CONCERNING AN ENHANCED PENALTY FOR THE ASSAULT OF AN OFF-DUTY POLICE OFFICER OR PRISON GUARD.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That section 53a-167c of the general statutes be amended to provide an enhanced penalty for assaulting a reasonably identifiable off-duty police officer or prison guard, provided such officer or guard was not engaged in behavior that could reasonably be viewed as provoking such assault.
Statement of Purpose:
To protect off-duty police officers and prison guards from being assaulted while off duty.
