BILL NUMBER: SB 979 INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Senator Hollingsworth FEBRUARY 8, 2010 An act to amend Section 11100 of the Vehicle Code, relating to vehicles. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 979, as introduced, Hollingsworth. Driving schools. Existing law prohibits a person, with exceptions, from owning or operating a driving school, or giving driving instruction for compensation, unless the person has secured a license from the Department of Motor Vehicles. This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to this law. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 11100 of the Vehicle Code is amended to read: 11100. (a)NoA person shall not own or operate a driving school or give driving instruction for compensation, unless a license therefor has been secured from the department. (b) This section does not apply to the ownership or operation ofanya school, or the giving of instruction, for the driving of motortrucks of three or more axleswhichthat are more than 6,000 pounds unladen weight.
