AN ACT

 

repealing section 15‑108, Arizona Revised Statutes; amending Title 15, chapter 1, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding a new section 15‑108; relating to school curriculum.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Repeal

Section 15-108, Arizona Revised Statutes, is repealed.

Sec. 2.  Title 15, chapter 1, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section 15-108, to read:

START_STATUTE15-108.  Minimum recess and physical education time

A.  Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, each school district and charter school shall provide at least thirty total minutes of recess each day for pupils in kindergarten programs and grades one through five, in increments of ten, fifteen or thirty minutes.

B.  The recess requirements prescribed in subsection A shall be implemented by classroom teachers and shall consist of structured physical activity outside or inside the classroom.

C.  Physical education classes may be used to satisfy the recess requirement prescribed in subsection a.

D.  Unstructured recess time that occurs immediately after lunch periods does not satisfy the recess requirement prescribed in subsection A. END_STATUTE
