AN ACT

 

amending section 15‑181, Arizona Revised Statutes; relating to charter schools.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Section 15-181, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended to read:

START_STATUTE15-181.  Charter schools; purpose; scope; open meetings; public records; posting

A.  Charter schools may be established pursuant to this article to provide a learning environment that will improve pupil achievement. Charter schools provide additional academic choices for parents and pupils.  Charter schools may consist of new schools or all or any portion of an existing school.  Charter schools are public schools that serve as alternatives to traditional public schools, and charter schools are not subject to the requirements of article XI, section 1, Constitution of Arizona, or chapter 16 of this title.

B.  Charter schools shall comply with all provisions of this article in order to receive state funding as prescribed in section 15‑185.

C.  Charter schools, governing bodies of charter schools, charter school sponsors, charter holders, charter school operators, corporate boards of directors of charter school operators and management organizations that contract with charter schools shall comply with both of the following:

1.  The open meeting requirements prescribed in title 38, chapter 3, article 3.1.  Notices of public meetings, agendas and minutes must be prominently posted on the website of the charter school and the website of the state board for charter schools.

2.  The public records requirements prescribed in title 39, chapter 1.  Public records must be prominently posted on the website of the charter school and the website of the state board for charter schools. END_STATUTE
