AN ACT
amending Title 41, chapter 12, article 2, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 41-1730; relating to the department of public safety.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:
Section 1. Title 41, chapter 12, article 2, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 41-1730, to read:
41-1730. Buddy alert notification system; requirements
A. The department shall establish the buddy alert notification system as a quick response system designed to issue and coordinate alerts following the report of a motor vehicle that is traveling against the direction of traffic on a divided highway as described in subsection B of this section.
B. On the request of an authorized person at a law enforcement agency that is investigating a report described in paragraph 1 of this subsection, the department shall issue a buddy alert if all of the following conditions are met:
1. The department has received a report of a motor vehicle that is traveling against the direction of traffic on a divided highway.
2. An approximate location of the motor vehicle is available for broadcast.
3. Public dissemination of available information may help avert harm to the public.
C. If the department issues a buddy alert pursuant to this section, the department shall provide the buddy alert information to any other entity that provides similar notifications in this state.
