SENATE RESOLUTION 29

Designating February 8, 2024, as Tucker County Day at the Legislature.
Whereas, Tucker County was established in 1856, and is home to five incorporated communities: Parsons, Davis, Thomas, Hendricks, and Hambleton; and
Whereas, Tucker County's valuable contributions to the state are seen in their tourism industry, outdoor recreation, as well as lumber and wood products; and
Whereas, Located at the confluence of five rivers is the City of Parsons, the county seat, and home to acclaimed bluegrass festival - Pickin’ in Parsons; and
Whereas, Tucker County features three state parks: Blackwater Falls, Canaan Valley, and Fairfax Stone; two designated wilderness areas: Dolly Sods and Otter Creek; and the Monongahela National Forest; and
Whereas, The Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, the largest wetland complex in West Virginia, and the 500th National Wildlife Refuge to be established in the United States, is located in Tucker County; and
Whereas, Tucker County has a rich history, a unique culture, and incredible natural beauty that attracts visitors who seek authentic experiences; and
Whereas, Tucker County is home to the only Cultural District Authority that encompasses an entire county and was established to promote the cultural, artistic, historical, educational, and recreational opportunities available in Tucker County; and
Whereas, The citizens of Tucker County travel to the State Capitol on an annual basis during the legislative session to participate in the democratic process, in which they share their accomplishments, aspirations, and concerns with lawmakers; and
Whereas, It is fitting, to recognize Tucker County for its history, culture, outdoor recreation, and inspiring future in the state of West Virginia; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby designates February 8, 2024, as Tucker County Day at the Legislature; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to Steve Leyh, Executive Director of Tucker County Development Authority.
