HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 79

Requesting repairs for Plum Orchard Lake in Fayette County, West Virginia as a cherished natural resource and recreational haven for the community.
Whereas, It has come to the attention of the Legislature that Plum Orchard Lake is in need of urgent repairs to maintain its integrity, safety, and beauty for current and future generations to enjoy; and
Whereas, These necessary repairs are essential to preserve the ecological balance of the lake and ensure its continued viability; and
Whereas, As a recreational destination, the lake is severely overgrown with lily pads, necessitating immediate action to restore its ecological balance and recreational appeal; and
Whereas, Camping facilities are very limited, thus necessitating the rehabilitation of infrastructure again to accommodate outdoor enthusiasts seeking overnight stays; and
Whereas, The shooting range is in deplorable condition, requiring comprehensive renovations to ensure safety and usability for shooting sports enthusiasts; and
Whereas, All playground equipment for children has been removed, highlighting the urgent need for the installation of a new, appropriate amenities to enhance the recreational experience for families; and
Whereas, The availability of rental watercraft is nonexistent, emphasizing the need to establish or reinstate facilities for the convenient and enjoyable rental of water based recreational equipment;
Whereas, For these reasons, renovation and repair of the lake and surrounding property is essential; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That in recognition of the vital importance of Plum Orchard Lake, and to the surrounding community, that we hereby pledge our commitment to securing the resources and support needed to initiate and complete the required repairs without delay; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the restoration and enhancement of Plum Orchard Lake are not only a matter of practical necessity, but also a testament to the dedication of the preservation of the natural heritage and well-being of the citizens of this state; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Legislature calls upon all relevant authorities, organizations, and individuals to join in this endeavor, contributing their expertise, resources, and efforts to ensure the successful rehabilitation of Plum Orchard Lake for the benefit of all; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the lake would be best served to transfer its control from Wildlife Management to Parks and Recreation; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates forward a copy of this resolution to the Division of Natural Resources, the Fayette County Parks and Recreation Authority, and to the Governor.
