Summary
The purpose of this bill is to clarify when a special election is required to fill a vacancy in the U.S. Senate, in light of the Seventeenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which requires the popular election of U.S. Senators. It authorizes the Legislature to provide the Governor with the power to make temporary appointments and authorizes the Governor to issue a writ of election to fill any such vacancy as required by law.
