WHEREAS, Kira Roberts, an outstanding educator and mentor who builds connections with her students on a personal level and who works to enhance the field of education, was named Lynchburg City Public Schools Teacher of the Year in May 2015; and

WHEREAS, a seven-year veteran of Lynchburg City Public Schools, Kira Roberts teaches fifth-grade students at Robert S. Payne Elementary School, where she has worked for three years; she is a firm believer in how a good education can help her students one day strengthen the community; and

WHEREAS, Kira Roberts strives to listen to and understand each student's perspective and acts as a positive mentor and leader in and out of the classroom; she initiated the FACE team to help teachers and administrators engage and interact with the parents and families of their students; and

WHEREAS, in 2015, Kira Roberts received grants focusing on the Daily 5 Reading Program, the Exercise Ball Seating program, and the Mobile Math Manipulatives program to improve home math skills; she continues to research innovative teaching methods; and

WHEREAS, respected by her peers for her wealth of institutional knowledge, Kira Roberts serves as the facilitator of best practices throughout the school system, allowing teachers to share methods and techniques; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Kira Roberts hereby be commended on being named Lynchburg City Public Schools Teacher of the Year in 2015; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kira Roberts as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for her dedication to her students and service to the City of Lynchburg.
