SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 46
Commending Michael and Doris Strickler.
 
Agreed to by the Senate, February 21, 2013
 

WHEREAS, Michael Millard Strickler and Doris Gale Fauber Strickler of Lexington have dedicated their lives to the service of the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Michael Strickler will retire in the spring of 2013 as a Colonel in the Virginia Militia after 38 years of service to his alma mater, the Virginia Military Institute (VMI); and

WHEREAS, Michael Strickler has served in several capacities at VMI, including as sports information director, public information director, and executive assistant to the superintendent; and

WHEREAS, as public information director, Michael Strickler oversaw VMI's transition to coeducation in 1996, and since 2001 has served as secretary to the VMI Board of Visitors; and

WHEREAS, Doris Strickler retired in 2011 after 38 years of service in Virginia's public schools; and

WHEREAS, Doris Strickler graduated from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton; and

WHEREAS, Doris Strickler taught art to children of all ages in Williamsburg and Buena Vista, instilling in them an appreciation for the importance of art in history, culture, and their own lives; and

WHEREAS, Michael and Doris Strickler graduated from First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach and have been together since the tenth grade; and

WHEREAS, Michael and Doris Strickler have been married since 1971 and have two children, Matthew Jackson and Amanda Holly, who both graduated from Rockbridge County High School and Washington and Lee University in Lexington; and

WHEREAS, Michael and Doris Strickler live in Lexington and attend Lexington Presbyterian Church; and

WHEREAS, Michael and Doris Strickler have served the Commonwealth with great vigor, honor, and distinction; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Michael and Doris Strickler hereby be commended on their combined 76 years of service to the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Michael and Doris Strickler as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's congratulations and admiration for the couple's commitment to serving the people of the Commonwealth.
