SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 146
Commending Makayla Bays.

 

Agreed to by the Senate, March 8, 2024

 

WHEREAS, Makayla Bays, a member of the Gate City High School girls' volleyball team, set the Virginia High School League girls' volleyball record for most career kills in 2023; and

WHEREAS, Makayla Bays broke the previous Virginia High School League (VHSL) record of 2003 career kills during the Gate City Lady Blue Devil's victory in the Mountain 7 District semifinals on October 24, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Makayla Bays finished her high school career with a total of 2,145 kills over 347 sets played, notching an impressive kill percentage of 48.8 percent; and

WHEREAS, as a testament to her dominance, Makayla Bays' sophomore, junior, and senior seasons all rank in the top 10 in state history for kills in a season; and

WHEREAS, the daughter of a college volleyball coach, Makayla Bays has been working toward this extraordinary athletic milestone from a young age; and

WHEREAS, Makayla Bays has earned numerous accolades in recognition of her accomplishments on the court, including 2023 VHSL Class 2 All-State Player of the Year, Times News Southwest Virginia Player of the Year three times; and VHSL Class 2 All-State team, Region 2D Player of the Year, and Mountain 7 district Player of the Year four times; and

WHEREAS, Makayla Bays' success is the result of her hard work and dedication, the leadership and guidance of her coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of her family and the entire Gate City High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Makayla Bays hereby be commended for setting the Virginia High School League girls' volleyball record for most career kills; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Makayla Bays as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for her achievement and best wishes in her future endeavors.
