SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 10
Celebrating the life of Alan Earl Casteen.

 

Agreed to by the Senate, January 25, 2024

 

WHEREAS, Alan Earl Casteen, an honorable member of the Army National Guard, accomplished financial advisor, dedicated public servant, and a beloved member of the Isle of Wight community, died on September 15, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Alan "Al" Casteen was eager to serve his country and ensure the safety and well-being of his community, joining the Army National Guard after graduating high school; and

WHEREAS, Al Casteen developed expertise in computers in the early years of the technology and would ultimately go on to leverage that experience to become an independent financial advisor to several Fortune 25 companies; and

WHEREAS, Al Casteen proudly served his constituents over multiple terms as the Smithfield District supervisor on the Isle of Wight County Board of Supervisors, bringing his extensive knowledge of the locality to bear in making decisions for its growth and betterment; and

WHEREAS, an honorary member of the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, Al Casteen was heralded around town for his generous tendency to gift free ice cream vouchers to every police officer, city worker, trooper, and first responder he encountered; and

WHEREAS, Al Casteen was a founder and multi-term president of the Portsmouth Street Rod Association, a local club of automobile enthusiasts, which provided him an outlet for his passion for cars and a network of close friends over the past half century; and

WHEREAS, Al Casteen will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Newanna; his children, Taraleigh and Lana, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Alan Earl Casteen, a cherished member of the Isle of Wight community whose kindness and generosity were an inspiration to all who knew him; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Alan Earl Casteen as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for his memory.
