WHEREAS, Texas Ranger pitcher and Virginia High School graduate Justin Grimm made an impressive Major League Baseball debut against the Houston Rangers on June 16, 2012; and WHEREAS, Justin Grimm, the son of Mark and Tamara Grimm, was a standout player at Virginia High School, played baseball at the University of Georgia, and was the fifth-round draft pick of the Texas Rangers in 2010; and WHEREAS, Justin Grimm thrilled his family, friends, and fans as he threw a 91-mph fastball strike at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas, to start his Major League Baseball debut; and WHEREAS, during his Major League debut, Justin Grimm pitched for six innings, throwing a total of 88 pitches, 56 of which were strikes; he allowed three runs on six hits, walked none, and had seven strikeouts; and WHEREAS, in an impressive performance, Justin Grimm led the Rangers to an 8 - 3 victory over the Houston Astros for a triumphant Major League Baseball debut, becoming only the 13th pitcher in franchise history to win a Major League Baseball start; and WHEREAS, at one point, Justin Grimm struck out five straight batters, the first Ranger pitcher to do so during his debut; he also became the first Major League Baseball player to have seven or more strikeouts without a walk during a debut since 2010; and WHEREAS, a talented and hardworking player, Justin Grimm demonstrated great focus and skill during his Major League Baseball debut and brought recognition to his hometown, high school, and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Justin Grimm hereby be commended on his outstanding Major League Baseball debut on June 16, 2012; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Justin Grimm as an expression of the House of Delegates' congratulations and appreciation of his immense talent and dedication to the sport of baseball. |
