Commending ViVa! Vienna!

WHEREAS, ViVa! Vienna!, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Vienna, has celebrated the unity and strength of the community with food, fellowship, and festivities over Memorial Day weekend for the past 40 years; and

WHEREAS, ViVa! Vienna! was developed by town officials and the Vienna Chamber of Commerce as a hometown celebration and was held for the first time on May 27, 1984, with all proceeds donated to help children with disabilities attend a summer camp in the Blue Ridge Mountains; and

WHEREAS, since that time, ViVa! Vienna! has raised more than $3 million and supported a wide range of local and international charities, which are now selected by the Rotary Club of Vienna; and

WHEREAS, ViVa! Vienna! takes place primarily on Church Street and features carnival rides, live performances, delicious cuisine, and local vendors; the event is also supported by the Freeman Store and Museum, the Red Caboose and Train Depot, and the Washington and Old Dominion Trail; and

WHEREAS, ViVa! Vienna! has delighted generations of local residents and visitors with its wide range of family-friendly activities and has strengthened the community through its support for charitable and educational programs; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That ViVa! Vienna! hereby be commended on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Rotary Club of Vienna as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the success of the ViVa! Vienna! festival.
