WHEREAS, Christian Ings, a guard on the Norfolk State University men's basketball team, helped the Spartans win the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament and was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament; and
WHEREAS, a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Christian Ings led the Saints John Neumann and Maria Goretti Catholic High School boys' basketball team to its third, fourth, and fifth consecutive state championship titles, a historic feat; and
WHEREAS, Christian Ings began his college basketball career at Rider University, then transferred to Norfolk State University (NSU) for his sophomore season, during which the NSU Spartans won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championship; and
WHEREAS, playing as a graduate student during the 2023–2024 season, Christian Ings helped the NSU Spartans win the MEAC regular season title and finish the season with a 24–11 record after defeating the Purdue University Fort Wayne Mastodons by a score of 75–67 in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT); and
WHEREAS, the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons scored nine three-pointers in the first 20 minutes of the CIT final to take a 10-point lead at halftime, but Christian Ings and the NSU Spartans responded with a dominant performance in the second half to seal the victory, with four members of the team ultimately scoring in double digits; and
WHEREAS, Christian Ings led the NSU Spartans in the CIT final by hitting seven of nine field goal attempts for 17 points, including two three-pointers, and recording three rebounds, three assists, and one steal; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Christian Ings hereby be commended on the occasion of his selection as Most Valuable Player of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament in 2024; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Christian Ings as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his athletic achievements.
