WHEREAS, for more than four and a half decades, the Camelot Civic League has helped make the Camelot neighborhood in Chesapeake a strong, healthy community and an exceptional place to live and raise a family; and

WHEREAS, the Camelot community was created in the 1970s in response to a need for a diverse, multicultural community that possessed middle-class homes for the residents of Chesapeake; and

WHEREAS, named for the mythical home of King Arthur, the Camelot community is surrounded by a moat and the original gates were shaped like castles; street names are reminiscent of characters and places from Arthurian legend; and

WHEREAS, the Camelot Civic League was formed in 1972 and has promoted a high quality of life in the community by organizing special events, like the annual Camelot Unity Day, and unique programs, such as the award-winning Beautification Committee and a Bereavement and Crisis Committee that provides support to residents; and

WHEREAS, in 2011, the Camelot Civic League established the Points of Light Program and Banquet, which has recognized more than 48 individuals or businesses that have had a positive impact on community life; and

WHEREAS, between 2012 and 2017, the Camelot Civic League awarded $9,000 in scholarships to local students, and its Education Initiative Program has hosted appreciation days for students, teachers, and staff at Camelot Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, the Camelot Civic League has also worked with the Chesapeake Police Department to provide holiday baskets of food to families in need, and the organization donated $650 to the Camelot Elementary School lunch program to cover debts and ensure that no child goes hungry; and

WHEREAS, throughout its history, the Camelot community has been home to entrepreneurs, city and federal government officials, active and retired military service members, theologians, educators, and leaders in many other professions; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Camelot Civic League hereby be commended for its more than 45 years of service to the residents of Camelot; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reverend Earlston Teal, president of the Camelot Civic League, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the many contributions of Camelot residents to Chesapeake and the region.
