WHEREAS, in 2013, Ebenezer Baptist Church proudly celebrates its 135th anniversary of serving the Ivor community; and

WHEREAS, in 1878, community members Richard Warren, Albert Ricks, Chester Warren, Chester Eley, Amos Griffin, and Jennie Phillips felt inspired to found Ebenezer Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, early members met under a bush harbor and in their homes before a generous donation of land from Hansel Johnson, a friend of the church, permitted Ebenezer Baptist Church to construct a building in which to worship; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Ebenezer Baptist Church grew in faith and members under the inspired leadership of the Reverends Heck, Allen, Baker, Proctor, Gomillion, and Smith who provided wise words and meaningful service; and

WHEREAS, dedicated trustees have provided wise guidance and insight to Ebenezer Baptist Church throughout its long and rich history; and

WHEREAS, today, Ebenezer Baptist Church offers deacon, deaconess, trustee, education, ushers, music, youth, pastor aide, missionary, social committee, and women's ministries, all of which provide the opportunity for members to grow and serve one another and the community; and

WHEREAS, Ebenezer Baptist Church opens its doors every Sunday to welcome the community for worship and fellowship; and

WHEREAS, an integral part of the Ivor community, Ebenezer Baptist Church looks forward to continuing to fulfill its mission with joy and hope; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Ebenezer Baptist Church hereby be commended on the occasion of its 135th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ebenezer Baptist Church as an expression of the House of Delegates' congratulations and admiration for the church's commitment to serving its members and the community.
