WHEREAS, Vinegar Hill Magazine is an independent African American publishing company dedicated to giving voice to more inclusive social narratives in politics, art, and culture in Central Virginia and to promoting entrepreneurship in these areas; and
WHEREAS, Vinegar Hill Magazine takes its name from the Charlottesville neighborhood Vinegar Hill, which was an economic and cultural hub for the city's Black community for several years beginning in the early 1900s; and
WHEREAS, Vinegar Hill Magazine is a founding partner of the Charlottesville Inclusive Media Project, which was formed with the goal of bringing more inclusive representation to Charlottesville's local media; and
WHEREAS, through its work with the Charlottesville Inclusive Media Project, Vinegar Hill Magazine fosters a greater sense of community, elevates conversations and stories of importance to African American audiences, and builds capacity to enable independent Black media companies and professionals to thrive; and
WHEREAS, as a beacon for art, culture, and politics in the Central Virginia region and a valued platform for the Black community in Charlottesville, Vinegar Hill Magazine has contributed a meaningful thread to the social fabric of the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Vinegar Hill Magazine hereby be commended for its accomplishments in service to the community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to representatives of Vinegar Hill Magazine as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the magazine's mission and best wishes for its continued success.
