HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 423
Commending Reuban Rodriguez, Ed.D.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 8, 2024
 

WHEREAS, Reuban Rodriguez, Ed.D., an esteemed education administrator, retired from his position as associate vice president and dean of students at Virginia Commonwealth University on March 1, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Reuban Rodriguez holds a bachelor's degree from Emory University, a master's degree from Georgia State University, and a doctoral degree from the University of Central Florida; and

WHEREAS, prior to his time at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Reuban Rodriguez worked at Tulane University, the University of Georgia, Emory University, Whittier College, the University of Central Florida, and the University of Scranton; and

WHEREAS, Reuban Rodriguez was notably VCU's first associate vice provost and later its associate vice president and also fulfilled the role of dean of students for the entire university; and

WHEREAS, after joining VCU in 2004, Reuban Rodriguez oversaw many departments that directly served students and spearheaded numerous endeavors to foster a sense of community on campus, including creating a single VCU honor system and an updated student code of conduct and establishing programs and events such as the Emerging Leaders Program, the Ring Ceremony, Qatar Week, Ram-opoly, Midnight Breakfast, and more; and

WHEREAS, Reuban Rodriguez took enormous pride in his work with the VCU Student Government Association, which strongly empowered the entire student body and brought forth a number of great student leaders and future public servants of the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Reuban Rodriguez's work and leadership has impacted thousands of the Commonwealth's best and brightest students who attended VCU during his almost 20-year tenure; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Reuban Rodriguez, Ed.D., hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement from Virginia Commonwealth University; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Reuban Rodriguez, Ed.D., as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his legacy of service and best wishes in his future endeavors.
