WHEREAS, Vivian Rivera-Maysonet, a Spanish language teacher at Elizabeth Scott Elementary School in Chesterfield County, was selected as the Bilingual Teacher of the Year by the National Association for Bilingual Education; and

WHEREAS, a veteran educator with more than 20 years of teaching experience, Vivian Rivera-Maysonet began her career in Puerto Rico, moved to the United States after Hurricane Maria in 2017, and joined the faculty of Elizabeth Scott Elementary School in 2020; and

WHEREAS, Vivian Rivera-Maysonet teaches a Spanish dual-language immersion course and is the only teacher to offer such a course in Chesterfield County; and

WHEREAS, Vivian Rivera-Maysonet strives to build deep connections with her students and instill in them her passion for lifelong learning; she previously won the 2022 Teacher of the Year award from Chesterfield County Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, Vivian Rivera-Maysonet will receive the Bilingual Teacher of the Year award at the National Association for Bilingual Education's 53rd Annual Bilingual Education International Conference in New Orleans in March 2024; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Vivian Rivera-Maysonet hereby be commended on the occasion of her selection as the Bilingual Teacher of the Year by the National Association for Bilingual Education; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Vivian Rivera-Maysonet as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her contributions to young language learners in Chesterfield County.
