Commending Tony Hackenberg.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 17, 2012

WHEREAS, the Knights of Columbus is the largest fraternal organization of Catholic men in the United States and also in Virginia; and

WHEREAS, members of the Knights of Columbus, since the organization's founding in 1882, have been dedicated to the principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism, and also have been devoted to labors of mutual benefit to members, to the Church, and to society-at-large; and

WHEREAS, Tony Hackenberg of Powhatan County, a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in the county, has quietly but effectively embodied these principles and purposes to the extent that he has been recognized as "Knight of the Year" for 2011 among all of the some 25,000 members of the Knights of Columbus in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, charity has been well described as offering to a stranger a cup of cold water in the night; Tony Hackenberg has, through the local Wood Cutters endeavor, labored to ensure that those in need of firewood for hearth and home have been assured of a steady supply of wood for the winter months; and

WHEREAS, Tony Hackenberg, in keeping with the interior graces from which the purposes and programs of the Knights of Columbus arise, has assigned credit for his recognition to his fellow members of the Powhatan Knights of Columbus; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates commend Tony Hackenberg for those of his charitable labors which have been of benefit to members of the community of Powhatan County as a manifestation of the principles of the Knights of Columbus; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this Resolution for presentation to Tony Hackenberg in grateful recognition of his designation as Knight of Columbus of the Year for 2011 in all of Virginia.
