HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 198
Celebrating the life of Salvatore Torelli.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 4, 2024
 

WHEREAS, Salvatore Torelli, an esteemed law-enforcement officer and active and beloved member of the Fauquier County community, died on July 19, 2023; and

WHEREAS, a native of New Jersey who relocated to Fauquier County as a child, Salvatore "Sal" Torelli embarked upon his career of service when he was only 14 years of age as a volunteer with what was then the Cedar Run Volunteer Rescue Squad in Catlett; and

WHEREAS, as a result of his work ethic and commitment to serving others as a first responder, Sal Torelli quickly rose through the ranks and ultimately became the Cedar Run Volunteer Rescue Squad's chief at a notably young age; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Fauquier High School and serving briefly with the Prince William County Police Department in the 1980s, Sal Torelli joined the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office in 1990, where he would work in various capacities, including as a school resource officer at Fauquier High School, until his retirement in 2017; and

WHEREAS, in his retirement, Sal Torelli returned to Fauquier High School as a school security officer, filling the halls with his comforting and supportive presence while ensuring the safety and well-being of students, faculty, and staff; and

WHEREAS, over more than three decades protecting and serving the citizens of Fauquier County, Sal Torelli embodied the highest ideals of the law-enforcement profession and forged deep, meaningful bonds throughout the community; and

WHEREAS, Sal Torelli was a mentor to both students and fellow law-enforcement officers and was instrumental to the founding of the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 1077 in the early 1990s, providing young people with the opportunity to learn more about careers in law enforcement and related fields; and

WHEREAS, Sal Torelli will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his son, Ian; his brother, Anthony; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Salvatore Torelli, a cherished member of the Fauquier County community whose kindness, generosity, and dedicated service made a profound and lasting impact on countless lives; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Salvatore Torelli as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
