WHEREAS, Robert Wright Evans, Sr., who served generations of Richmond residents as the owner and sole employee of a community newspaper, Key Awareness, died on August 30, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Robert Evans grew up in the Gilpin Court neighborhood and enjoyed playing sports in high school; he later counseled and mentored fellow athletes in the Richmond area; and
WHEREAS, for 25 years, Robert Evans fostered dialogue on important issues and highlighted unique people, places, and events in Richmond as the publisher of Key Awareness; the newspaper featured local news like graduations, business openings, and community milestones; and
WHEREAS, Robert Evans used Key Awareness to inform people in need about helpful programs and opportunities, and he developed a special column that allowed people to write about their challenges with addiction and the road to recovery; and
WHEREAS, Key Awareness was a labor of love for Robert Evans, who handled everything from writing, editing, and photography to advertising and delivery; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his work as a journalist and community leader, Robert Evans was a talented songwriter and musician; and
WHEREAS, Robert Evans will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Cynthia; his sons, Rodney, Randall, and Ethan, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Robert Wright Evans, Sr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Robert Wright Evans, Sr., as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
