HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 175
Commending the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 4, 2016

WHEREAS, in 2016, the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad celebrates 50 years of providing outstanding emergency response service and emergency medical service to the people of Manassas; and

WHEREAS, the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad was founded in 1966 when a small group of volunteers began working to make their community a safer place for residents and businesses; and

WHEREAS, members of the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad readily devote many hours to the organization, making great sacrifices in the process; the leaders of the rescue squad recognize that its members each possess a servant's heart to do the work required of a volunteer first responder; and

WHEREAS, people who join the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad go through an extensive application and onboarding process, including passing a background check, agility testing and a medical exam, completing multiple emergency medical service courses, and successfully serving a six-month probationary period; and

WHEREAS, it takes approximately one year for new members of the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad to be fully certified as emergency medical technician providers; all members seek to demonstrate the Squad's core values of professionalism, respect, integrity, dedication, and excellence every day and on every call; and

WHEREAS, all members of the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad regularly undergo additional training to maintain their proficiency and certifications; and

WHEREAS, serving as a volunteer first responder is a calling for many people, including the men and women of the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad and the members of the Squad's auxiliary unit; all of them work closely together and with the City of Manassas Fire and Rescue Department to provide support for each other in the community's best interest; and

WHEREAS, as part of its 50th anniversary celebration, the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad will honor all of its past and present members, knowing the sacrifices they made as they worked to help keep Manassas safe; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad hereby be commended on the occasion of its 50th anniversary in 2016; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Pete Rockx and Donald Brown, president and chief of the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad, respectively, as an expression of the House of Delegates' congratulations and admiration for the Squad's dedicated and tireless work to keep the people of Manassas safe.
