WHEREAS, the Reverend Clifford Boss Chambliss, Jr., a highly admired spiritual leader who enhanced the quality of life throughout the Richmond region by developing innovative outreach programs, died on March 9, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Clifford Chambliss grew up in Suffolk, where he began to cultivate his deep faith and developed an interest in ministry at a young age; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from the former Booker T. Washington High School and Shaw University, Clifford Chambliss earned a master of divinity degree from Virginia Union University; and
WHEREAS, Clifford Chambliss settled in the Richmond area, and in 1967, he became the executive director of Richmond Opportunities Industrialization Center, Inc. (OIC); and
WHEREAS, under Clifford Chambliss' leadership, OIC created and managed many unique programs that benefited more than 20,000 children and adults in Richmond; and
WHEREAS, Clifford Chambliss was also a trusted faith leader in the region for more than four decades; he pastored Springfield Baptist Church in Henrico County for 32 years and Garland Avenue Baptist Church in Richmond for 10 years; and
WHEREAS, Clifford Chambliss was a lifelong member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and volunteered his time and leadership to the Historic Jackson Ward Association, the North Richmond YMCA, and other local organizations; and
WHEREAS, Clifford Chambliss will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Nancy; his children, Clifford III, Melanie, and Bryant; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Clifford Boss Chambliss, Jr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of the Reverend Clifford Boss Chambliss, Jr., as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
