HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 144
Commending Debra Graves.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 1, 2013

WHEREAS, Debra Graves, a deputy with the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office, received a commendation for administering life-saving first aid at the scene of an incident; and

WHEREAS, a veteran of law enforcement for six years, Debra Graves joined the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office in 2012; and

WHEREAS, on October 19, 2012, Debra Graves was the first to arrive at a home where a woman was going into cardiac arrest; and

WHEREAS, Debra Graves promptly administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the woman, stabilizing her until medics arrived; and

WHEREAS, having never previously administered CPR in the field, Debra Graves relied heavily on her training to save the woman's life; and

WHEREAS, the incident illustrates the importance of extensive and continuing training in the uncertain environments bravely faced by police officers and first responders; and

WHEREAS, Debra Graves exemplifies the integrity and devotion to duty displayed by all members of the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office and law-enforcement professionals throughout the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Debra Graves hereby be commended for being honored by the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office for her skill in handling a medical emergency; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Debra Graves as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration and respect for her service and quick-thinking action in the line of duty.
