WHEREAS, James Pavik, Jr., a senior at Mathews High School, was named the 2011-2012 male Athlete of the Year by the Gloucester-Mathews Gazette-Journal; and WHEREAS, during the 2011 season, as a linebacker and running back for the Mathews Blue Devils football team, James Pavik earned all-district and all-region honors with his explosive running style and vigilant defensive play; and WHEREAS, James Pavik also helped the Mathews 2011-2012 wrestling team to a state championship and further honed his athletic abilities as a member of the Mathews 2012 track team; and WHEREAS, along with fellow senior, Kaitlin Eriksen, James Pavik earned Mathews High School the distinction of having two students named Athlete of the Year; and WHEREAS, after receiving a $500 honorarium for the award, James Pavik attended the University of Richmond and joined the Spiders football team as a linebacker; and WHEREAS, the accomplishments of James Pavik are a credit to the support of his coaches, friends, family, and the Mathews High School students and faculty; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend James Pavik, Jr., for being honored as the Gloucester-Mathews Gazette-Journal 2011-2012 male Athlete of the Year; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to James Pavik, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his wide range of athletic talents and best wishes for success in the future. |
