HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 477
Celebrating the life of Millie Hairston Eggleston.

WHEREAS, Millie Hairston Eggleston of Martinsville, a respected citizen and outstanding community supporter, died on January 22, 2010, at age 96; and

WHEREAS, Millie Eggleston was born on May 14, 1913, in Henry County, the daughter of Charlie M. Hairston and Mollie Griggs Hairston and the sister to six siblings; and

WHEREAS, Millie Eggleston was the devoted wife of the late Bishop Harry C. Eggleston, and the hard-working couple founded Shiloh Way of the Cross Church from modest beginnings in 1957; and

WHEREAS, Millie Eggleston was the oldest member of Shiloh Way of the Cross Church in Martinsville, where she participated in the adult choir and served as president of the church's Missionary Board and as national treasurer of the Missionary Department of the Way of the Cross Church of Christ, International; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Millie Eggleston generously gave of her time and talents to help people in need in her community; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and deeply spiritual woman, Millie Eggleston was like a mother to many, and during her long life of service she touched the lives of countless people; and

WHEREAS, Millie Eggleston will be fondly remembered for her kind and generous nature and will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Lorraine E. Grant and Sheila S. Fuller; her two brothers, Charles Dillard and Obadiah Dillard; her four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; numerous friends and admirers; and the congregation of Shiloh Way of the Cross Church; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding Virginian, Millie Hairston Eggleston; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Millie Hairston Eggleston as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory.
