WHEREAS, the Mount Sidney Ruritan Club, a local chapter of Ruritan National, Inc., dedicated to bettering its community through fellowship, goodwill, and service, celebrates its 85th anniversary in 2024; and
WHEREAS, the Mount Sidney Ruritan Club has greatly supported area youth over the years through various initiatives, including the establishment of a hot meals program at the historic Mount Sidney School beginning in 1940 and the hiring of a band instructor for the local elementary school and middle school in 1959; and
WHEREAS, the Mount Sidney Ruritan Club has played a vital role in promoting public safety in Mount Sidney by erecting road signs, installing street lights in the Sidney Heights neighborhood, and placing pedestrian crossing signs at critical junctures; and
WHEREAS, the Mount Sidney Ruritan Club spearheaded efforts to convince what was formerly the Augusta County Service Authority to provide water and sewer services in the Mount Sidney area, improving the quality of life for many; and
WHEREAS, in 1989, the Mount Sidney Ruritan Club purchased approximately four acres to create a public park that today offers myriad amenities for the benefit of residents of Mount Sidney, including barbecue pits, a basketball court, a soccer field, a playground, a picnic pavilion, and a helicopter landing area for use in the event of emergencies; and
WHEREAS, in recent years, the Mount Sidney Ruritan Club has effectively advocated for traffic safety measures along Route 11, the main thoroughfare through Mount Sidney, exemplifying the way in which the organization tailors its services to best meet the needs of its community; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Mount Sidney Ruritan Club are the result of the unwavering commitment of the organization's members and volunteers, who have helped to make Mount Sidney a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Mount Sidney Ruritan Club for its legacy of service on the occasion of its 85th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Mount Sidney Ruritan Club as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's contributions to Mount Sidney and the Commonwealth.
