WHEREAS, Robert Jones, head coach of the Norfolk State University men's basketball team, achieved a significant milestone in 2024, securing his 200th victory as a coach in a dramatic come-from-behind win against Howard University; and
WHEREAS, the Norfolk State University Spartans were down by 15 points at one stage, but rallied back with a 13–4 run to tie the game at 61, setting up a three-pointer by Jamarii Thomas with 25 seconds left to secure a 65–61 victory; and
WHEREAS, this victory not only marked the 200th career win for Robert Jones, but also highlighted the resilience and determination of the Norfolk State Spartans; and
WHEREAS, Robert Jones became the second coach in Norfolk State University history to achieve 200 victories, a remarkable feat that places him in the company of former coach Charles Christian; and
WHEREAS, the victory was a testament to the hard work and dedication of Robert Jones, his coaching staff, and the players of the Norfolk State University men's basketball team; and
WHEREAS, the outstanding leadership and mentorship of Robert Jones have been instrumental in the success of the team and the development of the student-athletes; and
WHEREAS, the victory is a source of pride for the entire Norfolk State University community and a reflection of the university's commitment to excellence in athletics; and
WHEREAS, the Norfolk State Spartans' victory against Howard University, which earned Robert Jones his 200th career win as a coach, is an extraordinary moment that will be remembered and celebrated by the Norfolk State University community for years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Robert Jones, head coach of the Norfolk State University men's basketball team, on the occasion of his 200th career win as a coach; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robert Jones as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his historic achievements in service to the students of Norfolk State University.
