Commending the Hopewell Rotary Club.

WHEREAS, the Hopewell Rotary Club was organized on March 15, 1924, through the efforts of Prince George County and Hopewell area Rotarians; and

WHEREAS, the Hopewell Rotary Club has met in several locations, including the Appomattox Library and its current location at American Legion Post 146; and

WHEREAS, members of the Hopewell Rotary Club work for the benefit of the Hopewell community through the four Rotary "Avenues of Service," serving the needs of the club, the community, vocations, and the international community; and

WHEREAS, the Hopewell Rotary Club's current signature fundraising event, the Rotary Roast at Camp Crystal Lake, was organized around 1998; the event has grown significantly, averaging well over 300 attendees, and has become a beloved local tradition in Hopewell on the first Wednesday of May every year; and

WHEREAS, the Hopewell Rotary Club has donated time and funds to support area organizations such as Hopewell Social Services, Hopewell Public Schools, Hopewell Housing and Redevelopment, the Hopewell Public Health Clinic, Hopewell Police and Fire Departments, the Appomattox Public Library, Hopewell Youth Services, the Hopewell/Prince George Chamber of Commerce, Friends of the Lower Appomattox River, the Hopewell Food Pantry, Hopewell Parks and Recreation, and more; and

WHEREAS, the Hopewell Rotary Club has shown by its actions and good works for the past 100 years that it is a significant asset to the community, providing crucial local leadership and funding projects that have greatly benefited the area and its citizens, as well as people around the world; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Hopewell Rotary Club on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Hopewell Rotary Club as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the club's legacy of service to the Hopewell community.
