WHEREAS, Reo Hatfield, who selflessly served the people of Waynesboro as a longtime member of the Waynesboro Police Department Auxiliary Unit and was chief for the last five years, retired in 2015 after 25 years of dedicated public service; and WHEREAS, Reo Hatfield joined the Waynesboro Police Department Auxiliary Unit in 1990 and served thousands of hours during 25 years of service to the people and businesses of Waynesboro; he developed great respect for law enforcement professionals and the often-unheralded work they do; and WHEREAS, when he became an auxiliary unit officer in the Waynesboro Police Department, Reo Hatfield was following in his grandfathers' footsteps; his paternal grandfather was a police chief in West Virginia and his maternal grandfather was a deputy sheriff; and WHEREAS, in addition to his work with the Waynesboro Police Department, Reo Hatfield is a successful businessman and a former elected city official; he is president of Reo Distribution in Waynesboro and he served two terms on the Waynesboro City Council; and WHEREAS, Reo Hatfield encourages other people to become involved in community police work as a way of sharing and giving back; he cites the insights he gained from being out in the community and his recognition of the good that law enforcement professionals strive to do; and WHEREAS, Reo Hatfield's son, Reo Hatfield III, is an officer with the Virginia Beach Police Department and is continuing his father's proud tradition of law enforcement service to the community and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Reo Hatfield, the former chief of the Waynesboro Police Department Auxiliary Unit, for 25 years of work to protect and serve the people of Waynesboro; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Reo Hatfield as an expression of the General Assembly's respect and admiration for his many years of law enforcement work. |
