WHEREAS, Amy Burchuk, an esteemed special education teacher with Virginia Beach Public Schools, was named Indian Lakes Elementary School's 2024 Teacher of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Amy Burchuk yearned to become a teacher from a young age, a vision fostered and inspired by exceptional teachers she had as a student, and she went on to earn a bachelor's degree in special education from Edinboro University; and
WHEREAS, Amy Burchuk has been a cross-category special education teacher for 23 years, including 12 years with Virginia Beach Public Schools and five years at Indian Lakes Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Amy Burchuk works tirelessly to create a learning environment that supports her students' needs and enables them to thrive; and
WHEREAS, one of Amy Burchuk's greatest strengths as an educator is her ability to forge relationships and bonds with her students and colleagues, while also helping her students better connect with one another; and
WHEREAS, with steadfast dedication to her students' well-being, Amy Burchuk devotes time to recognizing and addressing the issues impacting her at-risk students, building their trust and improving their educational outcomes; and
WHEREAS, with great compassion and a desire to help others, Amy Burchuk has embodied the ideals of the education profession, helping to make Virginia Beach a more wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Amy Burchuk for being named the 2024 Indian Lakes Elementary School Teacher of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Amy Burchuk as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her contributions to the growth and development of young people in the Commonwealth.
